Michael Jackson died.
Doesn't feel real, does it? When Ledger died, it was somewhat easy to accept and mourn on a cultural level. A ton of fantastic Russian actors have been dying in the last few years of old age, and it's a relief to sit a corner and remember all the wonderful works they've participated in, and feel sorry that nothing new of theirs will come out and that you'll never get to bask in another moment of their greatness.
But MJ died, and it'll take several days to process - it seems so inconclusive. It feels like he should have done something big, well supported by society in his later years - but dying with a legacy of one's youth - makes it sound so unhappy. One wishes it weren't true on some different level.
And ****, there are posts on dA asking people where they were when MJ died? What is he, a doll to society? Makes me SO angry that people allow themselves to dehumanize popular entertainers (or anyone for that matter)... Should get themselves something useful to do, instead of running their immature mouths for any chance of twisted fun.....
BTW, the newspapers too - have this country no sense of respect? Didn't anyone tell them that speaking ill of the dead is just plain unwise? Let the dead rest, and no need to fill the heads of the living with possible negative deeds... It's bloody absurd - considering how many of us put so much effort into making a difference because we want to be noticed and remembered - is it so damn difficult to mention only nice things about people after they're gone??? "Oh no, MJ did this and this for pop culture and music development overall, but, in case you've forgotten, he was also charged with this and that, drank alcohol and generally displeased us with his looks, so there - we couldn't announce his death without reminding you guys.
See, 'cus, we're nobodies ourselves, and can't just let someone simply shine - otherwise no one will ever read us again... Oh, and the column needs to be a certain length, and we suck at research so much that the only way to fill it was to skip over all his non music achievements and get right down to the infamous court trials. Aha"
ARG!!!

On a more peaceful note: I'm going to camp for two weeks

I'm mostly excited, but somewhat upset - there go two weeks of my creative freedom. It's going to be fantastic though - it always has, the summer camp; when I entered the organization as a 13 year old Pathfinder, when at around 17 I became the ones who leads all the girls in the troop, and now - when I'll be going as a general supervisor to my girls (including my younger sister) - - it always has been full of adventure, discoveries, silly drama, and a good shot of wilderness.
Oh, but organizing events for people to have fun makes me so happy - when they succeed, that is

And when they do, I wonder whether I should abandon my plans for pursuing a career in Finance/IS in favor of pursuing a less practical path - become a teacher.

Have you seen UP? I think it's the first Pixar animation which is truly a masterpiece. I mean, Pixar films are always mind blowing - funny, great plot, awesome artwork - good all around. However, this one has really achieved something; it reminds me of Russian style comedy - showing something tragic in a funny light. Even though up makes you laugh almost the whole time, overall, it made me cry. From the very beginning, the second you understand that this film will be about life, more so than about adventure - and until the very end, when supposedly happiness is found.
I highly recommend it.
There was also a moment that really bugged me: some dogs fall out of the plane, but are saved because they have parachutes. The villain falls out of his plane - with, like, 3 balloons attached to him - quite certainly to his death. Is it me, or is that just plain cruel??
